Emptiness
by
Bruce Sommer

Profound stillness,
deeper than
any numbness of body,
surges between
sounds of pulse.

a blind future,
eclipsed not by mere darkness,
but a void.

the black hole of
a collapsed life
sucking the mute echoes of dream,
vision, hope, and laughter,
into the disheartened compliance
of routine, drains all
that is left inside.
