Conspiracy
of Silence

by
Alexis Child

Part I

My enemies have left
Their cruelty means nothing to me
But a reflection in clouds of dust
Disliking its own image
The eye cannot see
The figure permanently changed
I patiently arrange my frustrations
Flames obeyed

Terrors running away
The black hour
A sharp taste in the mouth
Never allows love to enter
Where hatred dwells
I find a girl gone mad
Awakening to spit & stare
At the old years that run

Narrowly escaping the limping ghost
In a thousand doorways

Part II

A mad queen is born
Eye-lids closed
Turning to fire
Burning up fear
The broken life
Gathers round like witnesses
Faces whisper behind my own
"We cannot leave it here!"

Rumours of a sick town
Spitting out blood and stone
The city is alive with tumours
Hearts half-dead rising
Fly like dead birds in a dream
We whip like wild beasts
Unforeseen happenings
To anoint ourselves with

On this day of waiting
Point to the star that guides us on
Thoughts are suicide-notes by daytime
I dream at night learning its ways
Bringing back nothing
But holes in my suitcase
Empty!
Still saying good-bye

Home is long-ago
Go on your way
Shoulders hunched in uncertainty
I can no longer sleep
Shall I unlock every door?
Bitching in a double-bed
For a taste of beauty
In a preserved city

Doors open to all who can see
Its antiseptic dreams

Part III

Solitude like an old woman
Shivers with sleep
Under a granite tomb
Counting the years
One can never kill
Will you finally die with grief
Flowers fraught with wounds?
Life is plotting against me
The knife holds no blood but mine

Part IV

The sky of survival
Shaped of shadows
A perplexing vision
Strangely considerate
Pulls the trigger
On the skull of dreams

The troops are coming
Leaving behind cemeteries
Thousands are killed in a day
For taking what isn't theirs
Only death surrenders to peace
Waking up the day from dreaming

Part V

The Father of Heaven
Feasts on my breath
Glancing at me
In praise of simple prophecy
No one will give up
Their sleep for you
Tell someone else of your dreams

If you keep them you'll never be free
Cup them in ashes and silence
So you don't weigh us down
What comes unexpectedly
Stands waiting struck dumb
Beyond spoken words
Mouthing to the sky
