Necessity
by
Chloe Ryan

I ate it because I was starving
and choked with every swallow
that mechanized humanity

A little bit better; more
of the creation poised to retrieve
the pieces of ourselves
we've nearly forgotten

Processing—power
for the billions of requests
Subtle pleas for acceptance

And technology; carnivore
of the very creativity who made it
Gorging on the insecurities

But I only eat it because
I have to, to survive
