how they live. What does it mean to be an authorand
what does it mean to throw a genre like horror
into the mix? What is it about dark subject matter
that thrills us time and time again? The Horror
of Writing is an in-store event that will allow

before. Through anecdotes, audience Q & A,
and examples from their own works, the diverse
participants will reveal not only what it means
to be an author, but what exactly horror
is and isnt.

Keene (Shrewsbury, PA) is the Bram
Stoker Award-winning author of The Rising.
He is one of the organizers behind the wildly
successful annual Horrorfind convention in
Baltimore, and is well-known for his strong
readings, as evidenced by his audio book Talking
Smack. He can illustrate point-by-point
what goes into public events, how to have
a successful reading, and what is involved
in cultivating a following. |

Edward Lawson (Hyattsville, MD) is cofounder
of Raw Dog Screaming Press. He participated
in the publishing panel at this years
World Horror Convention and has been the guest
of online publishing chats. He offers a behind-the-scenes
look at the nuts and bolts of publishing houses
and can advise writers on approaching publishers.

Damien Malfi (Annapolis, MD) is an author
of literary fiction, thrillers, and horror,
as well as a writer of screenplays. He will
discuss molding believable characters, creating
and maintaining tension, and the finer points

Warner (Falls Church, VA) is a member
of the board of the Mid-Atlantic Horror
Professionals, and recently delivered a
lecture on horror literature at the Associated
School Librarians of Fairfax County annual
conference. He will discuss horror as a
genre: what it is, what it tries to accomplish,
and archetypal examples of great horror
stories. Author of The Organ Donor.

Winter (Oakton, VA) is not only an
accomplished author and editor, but is also
the biographer of both Stephen King and Clive
Barker. His criticism, reviews and interviews
have appeared in countless magazines and newspapers.
He will discuss the trials authors have to
overcome on their path to success, and how
